Rhode Island’s own Joe Beats is a hip-hop beat producer known originally as the co-producer for the duo Non-Prophets (subsequently Sage Francis). It’s a mixed bag of funky, southern-esc, trip-hop beats and samples across the three CDs. Although at times it feels like there’s a lot of filler material on the first two CDs, each offers up an assortment of exceptional tracks. Overall, it’s great for background music as it all sorta flows together. The “Indie Rock Blues” CD changes it up a bit, bringing its listeners an uninterrupted mix of indie/melancholy songs from various rock groups – remixed by Beats.
A few picks off the 3 CDs: “Space Boy Dreams” √++, “One Trick Pony”, “Someday”, “Wanderer’s Lust”, and “Friday Afternoon”
Doctor Rosen puts a cool downtempo/hip-hop vibe on his remixes. That’s it. Check it out. Stream/download my personal favorites below (All of the songs listed below are included in the “Full CD”).
I’ve been pretty busy lately but I have a lot of new tracks, I just haven’t organized them into new posts. So, I lieu of posting a bunch of new music, I thought I’d just put up some new music videos that are fantastically done (with download links above each video):
I also uploaded the rest of the Halfway Gone (Remixes) CD, it includes 8 mixes from Morgan Page, Fred Falke, and Jody Den Broeder (including the songs above^)
The Whitest Boy Alive is another great indie band that you should really check out! These remixes have a lot of pop and energy. Andy Webb’s remix blends The Whitest Boy Alive with tracks from Mylo and Cut Copy (another great band). Enjoy!
Hey, so its pretty late. I got my headphones on listening to music I downloaded earlier, it’s kind of hypnotic at this hour! I also noticed that I have 12 ‘drafts’ (posts) I still need to throw out here of artists and such that I really like. I’ll get to that, in the mean time here’s what I got playin’ fresh from this week and a few from way back.
I heard a really good remix of “Lisztomania” a while back (yea, the CLASSIXX version is epic but I like change when it comes to music) and this one keeps creepin’ into my playlists
While Junior Boyswas officially formed in 2003, the pre-history of the band runs back much further into the mid ’90s. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, the group began with childhood friends, Jeremy Greenspan and (former member) Johnny Dark, of whom had no real intentions of becoming professional musicians. However, when the band’s demo received lackluster reviews, Dark opted to leave the group (he would go on to release solo material and form one half of the duo, Stereo Image) and Matt Didemus took his place. Six years after the almost accidental founding of the band, the group has produced three studio albums and a mix CD, drawing their sound variously from disco, indie, electro-pop, R&B—and Frank Sinatra. I’ve posted their full “So This Is Goodbye” CD below and subsequent singles and remixes, get on that!
Nashville basedMagic Wands are an indie pop duo by the names of Chris & Dexy Valentine. Considered nearly a guaranteed underground success, the group took root in 2007 after Chris happened upon one of Dexy’s songs, the coolly detached “Teenage Love,” while perusing MySpace. Dexy was living in Los Angeles at the time, but the two nevertheless began a long-distance relationship that same summer, bridging the physical distance between Tennessee and California with countless phone calls and mailed gifts (one of which – a supposed “magic wand” – inspired the group’s name). Dexy soon left L.A. and relocated to Nashville, where she and Chris launched the Magic Wands with the proper release of their single,”Teenage Love,” on February 14, 2008 no less, on Ark Recordings. The group’s wizardry is fueled by acoustic to overdriven guitar-riffs and captivating lyrics that’ll leave you wondering whether the chorus or the verses are the more catchy element. Accompanied by consistent mellow to heavily stumbling drums, stuffed with shouts and layered with tons of reverb and distant conjuring chants, the Magic Wands are a hit amongst this listener!
