Alright I got a good mix coming your way today, with the help of some friends :] including a few new club banger tracks and a CD start your week off with…
Of course, with my absence on here, I’m a little behind in bringing you some new big tracks from the likes of Wolfgang Gartner! His new bit is pretty damn tight, oozing his trademark glitchy-haunted style out of every note. Definitely gonna be hearing this one mixed in just about every house mix in the coming weeks.
• Wolfgang Gartner – Illmerica (Extended Mix) √++
Keeping up with the dark sound, I heard this wompy dubstep mix of CocoRosie’s “Werewolf” and I honestly get chills to how wicked it sounds! (And if you’re wondering like I was, she does sing, “Yea I suck dick,” ha).
• CocoRosie – Werewolf (Omega Remix) ☠
Zeds Dead is making a pretty good name for themselves in the dub scene. I gave you taste of their work a while back with their epic remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes On Fire”. I figured they deserve some better recognition, on here at least, for their grimey, wompin’ beats! Here’s to, what I feel is, a great sampler: √++
• Dragonette – Volcano (Zeds Dead Remix) (love the chorus @ 2:00)
• Zeds Dead – White Satin
• Radiohead – Pyramid Song (Zeds Dead Illuminati Remix)
• Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)
Speaking of Massive Attack, I came across this amazing (non-dubstep) remix of “Paradise Circus”. Very ambient/down-tempo, lovin’ it.
• Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (feat. Hope Sandoval) (Gui Boratto Remix) √++
So I meant to post this guy a few weeks back, no sense in not, right? Wait for the sweet electro drop @ 2:23, it’s electro at its best, imho. (Thanks NaveeDJ for showin’ me this one)
• Felguk – Side By Side (Felguk Intro Mix)
A few months back, Laidback Luke quietly released a very tight (less effeminate than the original) electro/Dutch mix of Bellatrax’s “I Can’t Help Myself”. It’s got a great build throughout the song.
• Bellatrax – I Can’t Help Myself (Laidback Luke Remix)
Keeping up with the infamous Skrillex, he’s got a newish track out, mixing vocals with his unique style, blasting hectic drums beats at you, then he drops the womps on you, and trust me they drop!
• iSquared – Hey Sexy Lady (Skrillex Remix)
Romanian musician, Edward Maya, released this piece as his first single last year (Oct 2009) and it apparently was a pretty big hit across Europe (reaching #1 on over ten charts, only #93 on the US’). I’d never heard it till recently, but I thought it was kind of a nice refreshing track with a interesting incorporation of an accordion that truly makes this a unique song amongst the progressive house genre.
• Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – Stereo Love ft. Alicia (Extended Mix)
Breakbeat masters Stanton Warriors got their hands on Sub Focus’ track “Rock It”. They certainly do! It has the typical high energy sound of breakbeats with a twist that resembles Daft Punk’s “Discovery” CD (think “Aerodynamic”).
• Sub Focus – Rock It (Stanton Warriors Edit)
The new Magnetic Man self titled album is pretty tame in terms of the dubstep genre’s unbound sense of experimentation, and it’s certainly no attack on the charts (perhaps exempting “I Need Air”) – despite the supergroup’s individual potentials and the presence of vocalists including Katy B. However, that’s not to say there aren’t some great tracks to keep you listening all the way through (most of it is instrumental btw). I really enjoy it as a sort of background beat (for the rainy weather here). So give this one a listen, but make sure you have a subwoofer of some sort, otherwise you’ll just find yourself in a lot of treble (ha).
