The latest from Rusko that officially released yesterday. Synthy! Includes the original “Everyday” track as well as remixes by Netsky, DJ Q, Original Sin plus an additional track by Rusko & Reso, “Lick the Lizard”.
Hope everyone had a nice Turkey Day – I meant this post to be out yesterday for Dub Friday. Regardless, here are a few dubby tracks to help ease you in your weekend recovery. √motha-fuckin’+ across the board here!
I’m sure some of you are probably like, “they’re still remixing this?” But give em a play through, cause both are pretty tight! Stephan Jacobs has perfected the wobbles in his remix of “We Are The People” (dips hard @ 1:14) while Roksonix adds a hint of reggae dub to “Hide & Seek”.
Paul Oakenfold’s recent drum ‘n’ bass remix of Rusko’s “Hold On” brought my love for the song to a whole new level! Putting the original dubbyness aside, he’s crafted a wonderful piece around Amber Coffman’s beautiful singing.
Rusko (who killed it at Coachella!) finally released his first full-length CD, “O.M.G.!”, despite his presence on the scene for several years and I, for one, am a big fan of it! For the album, Rusko has broadened his sound to include other electro styles like nu-disco (I love how he’s incorporated it), house, and garage while incorporating a unique variety of guests in his wide-ranged, wobble-tastic debut CD.
√++ Picks: “Hold On”, “Dial My Number”, “I Love You”, “Scarewear”, “Raver’s Special”, and “You’re On My Mind Baby”
VanGuard did a fantastic remix of Digitalism’s “Pogo”, swapping the vocals for piano! I meant to post this months ago, guess it got lost in the library. Either way, enjoy!
I haven’t posted much filthy dubstep on here, but this song starts with a really enchanted tribal sound then drops into a filthy dubby beat @ 1:50. Both parts are excellent.
Going back to the 90′s with this track, Wiley spits over White Town’s “Your Woman” while Hervé drops a nice grimy downtempo beat to pull it all together.
I meant to press this one a while back. Designer Drugs brings us another “ambitious club banger” with an interesting video to match (perfectly), plus they’re playing at UCSD’s Sun God Festival!
I came across this the other night – always diggin’ on CLASSIXX. Treasure Fingers add a bit more rat-tat-tat to the remix and a touch of jazz piano in the background.
This next track is one of Calvin Harris’ more recent singles (although it’s nothing new in blog time). It has a nice deep bass line and a catchy chorus but it can get a little repetitive after a while. Nero provides a more calm approach while Laidback Luke’s mix is a bit more synth intensive.
Brooklyn based Chimp Beams is an downtempo, electronic dub trio formed in 2001 by three Japanese men. It’s a rather dreamy CD, the first half is pretty solid while the rest becomes very downtempo/ambient, almost too much. Their music is a mixture of dub, breakbeats, jazz, and techno (you try classifying it!).
CD Highlights: “Menina”, “Brooklyn Dub”, and “Sleeptalking”
Okay, so I’ve come across a lot of dubstep that I’ve loved, hated, and am still deciding on. MiM0SA has taken my appreciation to a new level. After seeing them perform at Coachella – the best set at the Do Lab hands DOWN, especially when they dropped Mr. Hudson – White Lies (Rusko’s Euphoria Mix), I have scoured the net to get everything of theirs that I can! I’m struggling to even give a favorites list, it’s all so fresh and just flows so well together.
√++Tracks: “Flux For Life”, “F.T.A.M.F.”, “Lullabyte”, “Psychedelic Stereo”, and “Kinetic”
Finally, MiM0SA did a remix of one of my favorite downtempo tracks by Télépopmusik. I ripped it (cause you can’t find it anywhere) straight from their site, hence the low bit rate. It’s SO good I can’t believe they haven’t released it anywhere else!
I also uploaded the rest of the Halfway Gone (Remixes) CD, it includes 8 mixes from Morgan Page, Fred Falke, and Jody Den Broeder (including the songs above^)
The Whitest Boy Alive is another great indie band that you should really check out! These remixes have a lot of pop and energy. Andy Webb’s remix blends The Whitest Boy Alive with tracks from Mylo and Cut Copy (another great band). Enjoy!
