So it’s the 100th post on dubPhonics! I thought I’d make this one chock-full of BIG tunes and conclude it with some after hours tracks.
Welcome to the party! Here’s some rave cake to celebrate! This one blows the roof off; brings the walls down! (PS: he’s not really talking about cakes D:)
• Uppermost – Cake Chop is Dope (2nd Edit) √+ (Heavier = Better)
But seriously, this lively Sigma remix of Danny Byrd, two contenders in the Drum & Bass ring, will likely bring an uplift to your day / keep our party here alive. Great bass line on this one!
Unicorn Kid’s got this crazy beat straight out of the Nintendays. Journey across the treacherous lands of Hyrule in this one.
Blow your mind with this final servings of DnB.
• Delta Heavy – Abort (Drumstep)
Hometown hero, Bassnectar, dropped the beat earlier this year on Nelly Furtado’s “Magical World”. Huge bass with a hauntingly grimy sound.
Hadouken! just cooked this dubby beat not too long ago. Gemini’s remix adds a great new flavor to it.
I listened to deadmau5’s new album, “4×4=12”, and its alright (it’s upped ☟below☟ btw). I just think it sounds tired. So, I threw on some older tracks and have been enjoying this one lately. Reminds me of his prog. house classic, “I Remember”.
Pendulum’s “The Island” got a great rework by an upcoming French teen, Madean, who, as VacayWave puts it, “has one of the most refreshing and infectious outlooks on electro-disco-pop that I have experienced in a while”. Electro-Disco-Dub-Pop-Whatever, it’s catchy and ends on a sweet wobble! I feel it should also get the cheese award for its lyrics.
I’ve got another glitchy piece here full of slaps and breaks… I dunno where to classify this, haha. But it’s by Star Slinger, remixed by none other than the Cocteau Twins. It has a sort of transcendental feel to it that sounds great on any setup! Get the rest of Star Slinger’s work/remixes free on his website! Enjoy – Thanks :DH
Pitchfork is a great site to find new, independent music through. I came across this one the other week and thought its dreamy sound would pair well with the previous song!
The party is almost over. Before you depart, maybe you could help me clean up and we can bump deadmau5’s new album? But all jokes aside, I feel like this one has a bland sound to it. As SOFI lyrically states it in her guest track, “it’s all the same thing”, and all the best tracks on it have already been out on Beatport for months while the rest are simply canned filler electro. It’s cool I but I feel like this Joel fella needs to stop producing these comparatively uninspired beats that he’s semi-debuted as soundtracks to his cat’s Youtube videos (lookin’ at you Meowingtons…). Also, dubstep is not his calling… I like the good old days (as everyone else seems to) of “Faxing Berlin”, “Hi Friend”, and of course “Ghosts N Stuff” (I know there’s a hundred other great songs to list, I prefer the more heavy electro work he’s done with Melleefresh, but I’ll list these songs – for generalization’s sake). This is still a great CD, I guess I was just anticipating a new song we haven’t already heard to debut with the CD’s release that aren’t as forgetable. *(Re-upped 5/6/11)
