Is This Love?

So there’s a lot of new and old chunes on here – some tracks I thought I’d just re-up for the sake of having them in higher quality. I’m not gonna say much about each track this time around, I figured I’d let you all be the judge of the selection. Also, I thought I’d try this new layout by genre. Hopefully it’ll help you all narrow down you listenings to what you prefer.

SaturDub

Hope everyone had a nice Turkey Day – I meant this post to be out yesterday for Dub Friday. Regardless, here are a few dubby tracks to help ease you in your weekend recovery. motha-fuckin’ + across the board here!

• The Temper Trap – Soldier On (Ruskos F’kin Seagull Remix) (Simply Amazing)

Nero kills it again! So heavy. Catch him headlining at the Bassrush Arena at TAO.

• Plan B – The Recluse (Nero Remix)

The mellow side of dubstep. I need more work like this:

• Metric – Collect Call (Imij Remix) (Danke-Shane) [128 kbps]

I’m sure some of you are probably like, “they’re still remixing this?” But give em a play through, cause both are pretty tight! Stephan Jacobs has perfected the wobbles in his remix of “We Are The People” (dips hard @ 1:14) while Roksonix adds a hint of reggae dub to “Hide & Seek”.

• Empire Of The Sun – We Are The People (Stephan Jacobs Remix)

• Imogen Heap – Hide & Seek (Roksonix Dubstep Remix)

NiT GriT Is The…

NiT GriT’s (Danny Beall) popularity in the bay area has broken out from the underground this year while his online presence on the blogosphere leads the way. I first heard him earlier this summer when I trekked over the hill to Santa Cruz to see him perform at the Blue Lagoon with some friends. He definitely stole the show. It was a great performance with an even better vibe from the crowd, the live painters, and NiT GriT himself coming down to the floor to party with us while his laptop played on. So check out his first full length album – it’s dubstep with a twist of reggae dub. You’ll find my favorite tracks toward the end, starting with “Abandoned [Sloth Logic Remix]” √++, and wrapping up nicely with a mixed DJ Shadow classic!

NiT GriT – NiT GriT (Full CD) [145 MB]

NiT GriT’s Soundcloud offers up not just a taste, but a full 3 course meal of his music. Make sure you grab the additional track downloads off the player below.

Drop Down

I haven’t posted much filthy dubstep on here, but this song starts with a really enchanted tribal sound then drops into a filthy dubby beat @ 1:50. Both parts are excellent.

• Modestep – Exile √++

…and some follow up dirty dubstep from Rusko.

Rusko – Hold On ft. Amber Coffman (Sub Focus Remix) √++ (crazy grind/wobble)

Going back to the 90’s with this track, Wiley spits over White Town’s “Your Woman” while Hervé drops a nice grimy downtempo beat to pull it all together.

• Wiley – Never Be Your Woman (feat. Emeli Sande) [Hervé Rework] √++

Deadmau5 is back with a new progressive house track with a similar sound to his other hit “Moar Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff“.

Deadmau5 – Some Chords (Original Mix)

I meant to press this one a while back. Designer Drugs brings us another “ambitious club banger” with an interesting video to match (perfectly), plus they’re playing at UCSD’s Sun God Festival!

Designer Drugs – Drop Down (heavy)

I came across this the other night – always diggin’ on CLASSIXX. Treasure Fingers add a bit more rat-tat-tat to the remix and a touch of jazz piano in the background.

CLASSIXX – I’ll Get You (Treasure Fingers Remix)

This next track is one of Calvin Harris’ more recent singles (although it’s nothing new in blog time). It has a nice deep bass line and a catchy chorus but it can get a little repetitive after a while. Nero provides a more calm approach while Laidback Luke’s mix is a bit more synth intensive.

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me (Laidback Luke Remix)

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me (Nero Remix)

Some cool drum ‘n’ bass trance.

BT – Godspeed (Hybrid Remix)

Brooklyn based Chimp Beams is an downtempo, electronic dub trio formed in 2001 by three Japanese men. It’s a rather dreamy CD, the first half is pretty solid while the rest becomes very downtempo/ambient, almost too much. Their music is a mixture of dub, breakbeats, jazz, and techno (you try classifying it!).

CD Highlights: “Menina”, “Brooklyn Dub”, and “Sleeptalking”
