Drop Down

I haven’t posted much filthy dubstep on here, but this song starts with a really enchanted tribal sound then drops into a filthy dubby beat @ 1:50. Both parts are excellent.

• Modestep – Exile √++

…and some follow up dirty dubstep from Rusko.

Rusko – Hold On ft. Amber Coffman (Sub Focus Remix) √++ (crazy grind/wobble)

Going back to the 90’s with this track, Wiley spits over White Town’s “Your Woman” while Hervé drops a nice grimy downtempo beat to pull it all together.

• Wiley – Never Be Your Woman (feat. Emeli Sande) [Hervé Rework] √++

Deadmau5 is back with a new progressive house track with a similar sound to his other hit “Moar Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff“.

Deadmau5 – Some Chords (Original Mix)

I meant to press this one a while back. Designer Drugs brings us another “ambitious club banger” with an interesting video to match (perfectly), plus they’re playing at UCSD’s Sun God Festival!

Designer Drugs – Drop Down (heavy)

I came across this the other night – always diggin’ on CLASSIXX. Treasure Fingers add a bit more rat-tat-tat to the remix and a touch of jazz piano in the background.

CLASSIXX – I’ll Get You (Treasure Fingers Remix)

This next track is one of Calvin Harris’ more recent singles (although it’s nothing new in blog time). It has a nice deep bass line and a catchy chorus but it can get a little repetitive after a while. Nero provides a more calm approach while Laidback Luke’s mix is a bit more synth intensive.

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me (Laidback Luke Remix)

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me (Nero Remix)

Some cool drum ‘n’ bass trance.

BT – Godspeed (Hybrid Remix)

Brooklyn based Chimp Beams is an downtempo, electronic dub trio formed in 2001 by three Japanese men. It’s a rather dreamy CD, the first half is pretty solid while the rest becomes very downtempo/ambient, almost too much. Their music is a mixture of dub, breakbeats, jazz, and techno (you try classifying it!).

CD Highlights: “Menina”, “Brooklyn Dub”, and “Sleeptalking”

Chimp Beams – Menina (Full CD) [93MB]

I Miss Coachella

I love this song, it has a very mellow nu-disco feel

Priors – What You Need (Hey Champ Remix)

Ferry Corsten recently released his new mix CD, Once Upon A Night, this is the first song off the album and I’m really liking the piano

Yuri Kane – Right Back

I know it’s not new, but I love the Bag Raiders’ ridiculously awesome indie-pop beat!

Bag Raiders – Shooting Stars (feat. Rhys of ‘Ted & Francis’)

This La Roux mix is really unique, the steel drums add a really cool chill-out vibe

La Roux – Quicksand (Boy 8-Bit remix)

This Crystal Castles live performance is pretty good, the intro was wonderfully done

Crystal Castles vs. Health – Crimewave (Midnight Conspiracy Remix)

Pitbull and Benny Benassi (one of my favorite sets at Coachella) put together an awesome dance mix with this mash-up of “Satisfaction” and “Move Shake Drop”

Pitbull – Move Shake Drop (Satisfaction Cover) (Mix Munkies Extended)

This is a cool drum n bass mix of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” that really drops at 2:23

Rihanna – Rude Boy (TC Remix)

This fuzzy/bubbly mix of Tegan & Sara’s “Alligator Tears” oozes Morgan Page’s style. Great beat, unique vocals

Tegan & Sara – Alligator (Morgan Page Remix)

Miike Snow was fantastic at Coachella, looked nothing like I thought he did :P but Felix da Housecat recently mixed “Silvia” to the best that I’ve heard, enjoy

Miike Snow – Silvia (Felix da Housecat Remix)

Designer Drugs have been pumping out a buch of tracks lately, one of their latest, a mix of Treasure Fingers’ “Cross The Dancefloor,” adds a tastefully wobbly bassline and catchy two-steppin’ breakbeat

Treasure Fingers – Cross The Dancefloor (Designer Drugs Remix)

Finishing up this post with “Dead-Mow Five” (joke) mixing Eric Prydz’s “Pjanoo” (for the millionth time) from his set from WMC 2010

Eric Prydz – Pjanoo (Deadmau5 WMC 2010 Edit)

B-FORE & AFT+R

*So I’m amped on this update, it’s got some crazy slaps and grinding basslines*

I’m pretty sure most of you have heard this Deadmau5 track already, but nonetheless, it’s a fantastic dubstep remix by none other than Caspa

Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember (Caspa Remix) (Epic)

An excellent wompin’ electro remix of a classic hit!

• Foreigner – Cold As Ice (Bastille Remix Shortened Edit)

These songs are pretty fun! I really enjoy the hectic pickups

• Buy Now – Body Crash (JFK Edit) (Similar to Crystal Castles – explodes @ 2:30)

U-God – Ugodzilla (Yuksek Remix)

• Andy Caldwell ft. Gram’ma Funk – Funk Nasty (Wolfgang Gartner Remix)

• Blatta & Inesha – Blatta & Inesha

Donald Glaude – BIG (Original Mix) (one of my favorite drops ever @ 3:11)

A Shout Out:

• Thieves Like Us – Drugs in My Body (Designer Drugs Remix)

For a chillout session, Booka Shade is great stuff~

Booka Shade – Night Falls (favorite)

• Booka Shade – Outskirts

• Booka Shade – Numbers

UNKLE is a collab effort with a dark, hypnotic sound thanks largely in part to DJ Shadow’s trip-hop style

• UNKLE – Unreal (love)

UNKLE – Bloodstain

UNKLE – Glow (very calming)

Norwegian native, pop-indie artist, Annie, began DJing in Bergen, Norway in 1999, when she released the Madonna-sampled, underground smash single, “The Greatest Hit”, which gradually became popular in Norwegian and British nightclubs. Her career took off from that point and she went on to release “Anniemal” in 2004 with the production help/influence of fellow Norwegian band, Röyksopp, and England’s own Richard X. For the most part, however, Annie’s CD has not grown on me. I’m not impressed past the following select original tracks and outstanding remixes. Yet, the songs of hers that I do like, I sincerely love!

Annie – Anthonio

Annie – Heartbeat

Annie – The Greatest Hit (Extended Disco Mix)

This Song Has Changed My Life and Appreciation Of Music (Ridiculous I know…But Truly)

• Annie – Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)
